About PhotoPSD

A tab that opens a PSD, edits it and exports a PNG — without an install, an account or an upload.

Updated Nov 5, 2026

PhotoPSD is a small, deliberately narrow project. It puts a full layer-based image editor inside a web page, and surrounds it with written explanations of the things people actually get stuck on: what a PSD contains, why masks are reversible, which format to export.

Why a browser editor

Three reasons, in order of how often they matter:

No install. The work happens on machines that cannot install software — a locked-down laptop, a borrowed Chromebook, a colleague’s computer during a call.

No upload. Many online converters ask you to send the file to a server. For client artwork or unreleased product shots that is a conversation with legal you do not want to have. Here the file is opened and written locally; the network panel stays quiet.

No licence arithmetic. Most image work is a resize, a retouch or a format change. Paying for a desktop suite to do that once a month is a bad trade, and most people doing it are not designers.

What the editor handles

Layered PSD and PSB files open with their layer stack, blend modes and masks intact. Selections, transforms, channel editing and vector paths are all available, and exports go to PNG, JPEG or WebP. Rendering uses WebGPU where the browser supports it, so large canvases stay responsive.

The editor starts in a tab and needs no account. Files are read and written on your device, and nothing is uploaded to run a conversion.

What this site is not

It is not affiliated with Adobe. It does not claim to replace Photoshop for print production, CMYK workflows or 16-bit editing — it is an RGB editor for screen output, and the comparison page says so plainly.

It is also not a subscription funnel. There is no account system, and the site is funded by advertising rather than paid plans. If you never click an ad, the editor still works.

How to reach a human

Bugs, corrections and complaints all go through the contact page. Messages that include the browser version, the file type and what you expected tend to get fixed fastest.
